Prof. Dr. Nenad Filipović, Rector of the University of Kragujevac and Full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at the University of Kragujevac, has been appointed as the new Acting Director of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia.
“Being appointed to the position of the Acting Director of the Science Fund represents a new challenge for me, where I will try to improve the position of our researchers throughout Serbia in relation to Europe and the world, to increase the visibility of our research and its application in everyday life, as well as beyond the borders of our country,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Filipović.
Prof. Dr. Filipović also pointed out that the Science Fund should become the main driver of research throughout Serbia, as well as collaboration with other top researchers worldwide. He aims to facilitate closer cooperation between science and industry, increase the Fund’s visibility among other international science funds, and establish it as a dominant source of scientific funding, not only in Serbia but in the entire region.
Prof. Dr. Filipović is recognized as a leading expert in applied mechanics, bioengineering, and information technologies, with significant scientific and research achievements at the international level. He currently leads the highest number of international scientific projects in the entire region.
Prof. Dr. Filipović has authored more than 200 papers in international journals, 5 monographs, 41 chapters in monographs, and has presented over 100 papers at national and international conferences. His research has significantly contributed to the development of software solutions based on the finite element method and discrete methods, particularly in the field of bioengineering. He is one of the main authors of the PAK software package and is leading the formation of the Center for Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences.
Prof. Dr. Filipović also spent significant time at Harvard University in Boston, where he worked on bioengineering projects between 2003 and 2012.
In addition to his academic achievements, Prof. Dr. Filipović has been actively involved in international cooperation, leading numerous national and international projects funded through programs such as FP7, Horizon2020, Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, CEI, and SCOPES. His dedication to science and innovation has been recognized through numerous awards, including the “Kapetan Miša Anastasijević” award for promoting the development of scientific research activities in the Republic of Serbia in 2020.
