Dr. Milica Đurić-Jovičić, acting director of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia was elected as а new member of the Governing Board of the Science Europe, international organisation representing major public organisations that fund or perform excellent, ground-breaking research in Europe.

The Science Europe Governing Board is the senior body of elected members who is entrusted by the General Assembly to define, guide, and monitor the strategic direction of the Science Europe.

Dr. Milica Đurić-Jovičić on her appointment:

„The Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia was established in 2019 with the aim of developing an independent institution that will support scientific excellence in Serbia through competitive funding programs. In that process, we had strong support from the Government of Serbia, World Bank, EU Delegation in Serbia, research funding institutions across the EU, as well as Serbian scientific diaspora from around the world. Thanks to this systematical approach and support, we developed fast to an agile institution as we are today. In only four years, we opened 10 funding programs designed to contribute to the further development of science in Serbia and building the capacity of research organizations and research teams in all fields of science.

As the head of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, I am honored to have been elected as a member of the Science Europe Governing Board. In Serbia, a small country with a big commitment to science, innovation, and digital advancement, we understand the transformative power of these fields in shaping our collective future. The distinctive challenges of our region have molded us into a community that sees challenges as opportunities. Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia is recognised as a catalyst for positive change, and our experiences can contribute valuable insights that might be overlooked by larger countries. Our dedication to nurturing an innovative culture and supporting cutting-edge research resonates with the objectives of Science Europe.

Collaborating with fellow Board members, together, we can leverage our collective expertise to advance goals of Science Europe, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages scientific excellence, promotes research integrity, and addresses evolving challenges and opportunities in the realm of science and research.”
