A working meeting was held at the premises of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia with representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a leading intergovernmental organization addressing migration issues, which has been part of the United Nations system since 2016.
At the meeting, a joint initiative was agreed upon aimed at developing mechanisms and support measures for the inclusion of diaspora scientists in research activities in Serbia. Through close intersectoral cooperation among relevant state institutions, with the support of IOM and the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, a particular focus will be placed on connecting diaspora researchers with scientists in Serbia and enabling their more active participation in joint research projects. In this way, coordinated action among different institutions is expected to contribute to strengthening the scientific community and reinforcing ties between highly educated professionals and their home country.
The IOM delegation included Jovana Gušić, National Programme Coordinator; Milovan Batak, Project Coordinator; and Milica Grubičić Milićević, Project Assistant. The Science Fund was represented by Professor Nenad Filipović, PhD, Acting Director, and Stefan Đorđević, Program and Project Manager.
