650th EUROMECH Colloquium Dedicated to the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Applied Mechanics Held in Belgrade

The 650th EUROMECH Colloquium, titled “Addressing Challenges in Applied Mechanics through the Application of Artificial Intelligence,” is being held in Belgrade from 27 to 29 August 2025, organized by the European Mechanics Society (EUROMECH) and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade. This 650th EUROMECH Colloquium is particularly significant as it represents the first EUROMECH event organized in the region. The event provides a unique opportunity to advance discussions on the future of applied mechanics driven by artificial intelligence. The Colloquium brings together leading researchers from various disciplines and experts in artificial intelligence to explore innovative solutions, exchange ideas, and foster collaboration in a dynamic scientific environment.

At the opening of the 650th EUROMECH Colloquium, Professor Nenad Filipović, PhD, Acting Director of the Science Fund, addressed the participants as one of the invited speakers. He presented the work of the Science Fund and its ongoing programs, emphasizing that through significant investments provided via its funding schemes, the Fund supports a large number of projects across different scientific fields. He also noted that approximately 15–20% of all researchers in Serbia are engaged in projects funded by the Science Fund.

The Acting Director highlighted that several programs already support research in the field of artificial intelligence and announced the upcoming launch of a new Artificial Intelligence Research Support Program.

In addition to the Acting Director of the Science Fund, other invited speakers at the opening included Professor Samuel Forrest, Secretary General of EUROMECH; Professor Vladimir Popović, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade; and Professor Srboljub Simić, President of the Serbian Society for Mechanics.

The event was also addressed by the organizers of the 650th EUROMECH Colloquium: Chair Professor Nataša Trisović and Co-Chairs Professor Tamás Mantkowitz, Dr Petar Dimitrov, Professor Zoltán Major, and Professor Ana Petrović.
